The honest situation

GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026. There is no confirmed PC release date and no official system requirements. Based on Rockstar’s release history — GTA V took 18 months after console, Red Dead Redemption 2 took 13 months — a PC version is widely expected in late 2027, most likely between September and December.

That means PC players are looking at a 12–18 month wait from the console launch. The good news: that gives you time to plan and build smart rather than panic-buy hardware at today’s inflated prices.

This article covers what we can credibly predict about GTA 6 PC requirements, what hardware will run it at each tier, and whether you should build now or wait.

Should you build a PC now for GTA 6?

Probably not specifically for GTA 6 — but if you were already planning a build, don’t let GTA 6 stop you.

Here’s why waiting until 2027 makes sense for GTA 6 specifically:

GPU prices are elevated right now. The AI-driven component shortage has pushed RAM and GPU prices significantly above where they were 12–18 months ago. Prices may normalize by the time GTA 6 hits PC.

We don’t know the requirements yet. Building to spec before specs are announced means guessing. Rockstar’s requirements for GTA V and RDR2 surprised people in both directions.

The PC version will be better. Rockstar’s PC ports consistently offer higher resolutions, better draw distances, and mod support. Waiting for the PC version and having capable hardware ready is the right move.

If you’re building a PC for gaming now and GTA 6 is a factor in your decision, build for 1440p gaming in general — a PC that handles 2026’s demanding games well will handle GTA 6 when it arrives.

Predicted GTA 6 PC system requirements

No official requirements have been published. These predictions are based on the PS5’s hardware profile, Rockstar’s history of well-optimised PC ports, and current comparable open-world games.

These are predictions, not guarantees. Rockstar will publish official requirements closer to the PC launch — check back here when they do and we’ll update this article.

Why these predictions make sense

The PS5 runs on hardware roughly equivalent to a Radeon RX 6700 XT paired with an 8-core Zen 2 CPU. Rockstar’s PC ports have historically required meaningfully more powerful hardware than console equivalents to match console performance, due to the overhead of PC operating systems and the higher CPU demands of PC game engines.

GTA V minimum requirements at launch called for a GTX 660 — a card that landed roughly in line with the Xbox 360/PS3 hardware of that era, adjusted for PC overhead. RDR2 followed a similar pattern. GTA 6 is targeting 4K on PS5 Pro and 60fps on base PS5, which suggests the PC recommended spec will need to be meaningfully above the PS5’s hardware baseline to match that performance.

The 150GB storage estimate is based on current open-world game sizes — Red Dead Redemption 2 is 150GB, Cyberpunk 2077 is around 70GB. GTA 6 is expected to be Rockstar’s largest game by scope and will likely land in the 130–180GB range.

What to build at each budget

Budget build (~$785) — targets 1080p at launch

This is our current best budget gaming PC build. It’ll handle GTA 6 at 1080p on medium-high settings based on predicted requirements.

PartPickPrice
CPUAMD Ryzen 5 5500~$89
GPUIntel Arc B580 12GB~$299
RAM16GB DDR4-3200~$142
MotherboardGigabyte A520M K V2~$73
Storage256GB NVMe SSD + upgrade needed for GTA 6~$53
Case + PSUFractal Core 1000 + Corsair CX550F~$129
Total~$785

Storage warning: GTA 6 will likely require 130–180GB. A 256GB drive won’t fit the game alongside Windows and other installs. Budget an extra ~$60 for a 1TB NVMe upgrade before GTA 6 launches — see our SSD vs HDD guide for recommendations.

Mid-range build (~$1,000) — targets 1440p at launch

Our $1,000 build sits comfortably in the predicted recommended spec range. Expect 1440p at high settings with smooth 60fps based on current comparable titles.

PartPickPrice
CPUAMD Ryzen 5 9600X~$220
GPURTX 5060 8GB or Arc B580 12GB~$299–$349
RAM32GB DDR5-6000~$150
Storage1TB NVMe SSD~$80

High-end build (~$1,500) — targets 4K or 1440p ultra

Our $1,500 build is built around the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RTX 5070 — this is the tier that will handle GTA 6 at maximum settings when the PC version arrives.

The VRAM question

This is worth thinking about carefully for GTA 6 specifically. Rockstar’s open worlds are texture-heavy — GTA V and RDR2 both pushed VRAM hard at max settings. GTA 6 will be meaningfully more demanding.

8GB VRAM is likely sufficient for 1080p at medium-high settings, but may struggle at ultra settings or 1440p. Red Dead Redemption 2 at ultra 4K already exceeds 8GB.

12GB VRAM is the safer long-term choice for GTA 6. If you’re building now and GTA 6 is a factor, the Arc B580’s 12GB at $299 is directly relevant — it’s more future-proof for an open-world title at this price point than any 8GB card.

16GB+ VRAM (RTX 5070 and above) will handle whatever GTA 6 demands at any resolution.

What about upgrading an existing PC?

If you already have a PC and want to know if it’ll run GTA 6, the most important variables are GPU VRAM, GPU generation, and CPU core count.

You’re probably fine if:

  • Your GPU is RTX 3070 / RX 6700 XT or newer with 8GB+ VRAM
  • Your CPU is Ryzen 5 5600 / Core i7-10700 or newer
  • You have 16GB of RAM

You’ll likely need an upgrade if:

  • Your GPU has less than 8GB VRAM
  • Your CPU is a quad-core from before 2019
  • You’re on 8GB of RAM

The most common bottleneck for GTA 6 on older systems will be VRAM, followed by CPU single-core performance. Check our GPU upgrade guide if you’re considering a GPU swap before GTA 6 launches.

When will official GTA 6 PC requirements be published?

Rockstar typically announces PC versions and system requirements 2–3 months before PC launch. Based on a late 2027 PC release, expect official requirements in mid-to-late 2027. We’ll update this article the moment they’re published.
